Project Story: West Chester Township Outdoor Transformation

On a 0.7-acre property in Westtown Township, we redesigned a backyard that had been a flat lawn for 20 years. The challenge: a grade change from the house to the back property line, existing mature oak trees we wanted to preserve, and a homeowner who entertained frequently. The solution:

• Two-level bluestone patio connected by a Chester County fieldstone retaining wall — upper level at grade with the kitchen door, lower level with a gas fire feature and lounge seating
• Pergola over the upper dining area, connected to the house structure
• Planting design that worked around the oak root zones — flowering perennials and ornamental grasses at the base level, formal boxwood framing on the upper terrace

The 3D rendering delivered to the client showed the complete composition — from the house door to the back fence — before a single stone was cut.
