Landscape Master Plan

A landscape master plan is a comprehensive design document that addresses the entire property, not just one area or project. It establishes the long-term vision for all landscape elements: grading, drainage, hardscape, planting, lighting, irrigation, and structures. A master plan is developed before any installation work begins, and it serves as the guide for phased implementation over one or more seasons.

Master Plan vs. Individual Project Design

Without a master plan, individual projects are often executed in isolation, and the result is a property that looks assembled rather than designed. A patio installed one year, a planting bed the next, a retaining wall the year after, with no governing vision connecting them. A master plan prevents this by establishing the complete design up front, so every phase of work contributes to a coherent outcome even if it happens over several years.

Master plans are particularly valuable on larger Chester County estate lots, Westtown and Pocopson properties with complex topography, and Main Line properties in Gladwyne or Wayne where the investment is substantial and getting the sequence right matters as much as getting the design right.
