Landscape Lighting

Landscape lighting is the design and installation of exterior lighting systems that illuminate outdoor environments for safety, security, and visual effect after dark. A complete landscape lighting design addresses multiple lighting layers: path and step lighting for safety, up-lighting for trees and architectural features, accent lighting for planting beds and walls, and ambient lighting that extends the usability of outdoor living spaces into evening hours.

Types of Landscape Lighting

Path lighting illuminates walkways and steps, the safety-critical layer of any lighting design. Uplighting places fixtures at grade and angles light upward into trees, walls, and architectural elements, creating drama and defining the property's nighttime profile. Downlighting from structures creates soft pools of light for seating areas. Wall wash lighting grazes the face of retaining walls and fences, adding texture and depth. Step lighting integrates into risers or walls and eliminates tripping hazards while adding visual interest. Accent and mood lighting completes the system, targeting specific plantings, sculptures, or water features.
